Do I believe in the gimmick?
Update September 2019, I'm happy with the purchase. It just works. My back is happy with it. The rest of the review still applies, but it has earned itself a 4/5 stars upgrade. After waiting four months to have this chair JIT built and shipped half way around the world by boat, I was excited to see what all the fuss was about. Surprised by the lack of real world reviews or youtubers, I felt it important to share my thoughts about this gorgeous looking chair.About a decade ago I purchased a Herman Miller Embody, due to back pain from sitting in a bad chair all day. Although it helped with the back pain, the chair was otherwise nothing short of being an expensive gimmick. The armrests were uncomfortable, the back was too narrow for my upper back, and the level of recline was insufficient.I had a similar negative experience with the Aeron, and have resided to the fact Herman Miller is not built for my body type or sitting style. I decided to give Steelcase a go.I bought myself a Steelcase Leap V2 and Amia to compare for fitting out my office. Sadly the sales staff in Asia were nothing less than horrible, and I found eBay and Amazon in the US were the only reasonable way to acquire these products in Asia.I've found the Leap V2 and Amia to be no fuss highly adjustable and comfortable chairs. I've fitted out most of my staff with either of the two, and I've heard nothing but praise about them. So I decided to give the SILQ a go.At first the complete lack of customization seems... wrong. What had I just bought? After putting in a solid 12 hours in the chair, I found the back position was comfortable, the armrests were in the right position, and I was otherwise happy with how my body felt. But is this chair innovative enough that I don't care about the lack of adjustment? To start, the back of the chair is not high enough. I find there is some straight on my neck when leaning back. My neck muscles are at work as soon as I've got a little recline. The lumbar is not in the right position. It's not bad by any standard, but it's simply not where it should be. There is nothing to adjust it.There are noticeable sharp edges on the plastic finish of the back of the chair left over from manufacturing. I would normally blame the stain on the fabric (pictured) from shipping, but the poor finish of the plastic makes not wish to give the benefit of the doubt. In fact as I run my fingers over various parts of the chair, I find more and more little imperfections in the plastic. One thing I like about Steelcase chairs is the ability to be able to cross my legs on them; a feature that most Herman Millers do poorly, either because the armrests are in the wrong position, or the base materials are wrong, or the base isn't wide enough.I feel I need to give this a few more weeks and decide, do I believe in the gimmick?

Disappointing
I bought this chair from Steelcase directly. I thought any office chair at this price from a company with a good reputation would be better than no-name office chairs. The build quality is OK and the materials used are nice, but this chair has no control except the seat height. Everything else is fixed. Mine is tilted a bit lower on the front side, keeps pushing my body forward, making it impossible to have some relaxing position. Armrest position is also fixed, and the back is also fixed. After all, it is just a very uncomfortable chair to sit on. You end up fighting the chair for your posture all the time. Compared to Aeron chair from Herman Miller with multiple degrees of freedom of customization for your posture, this is a nightmare. You don't get to customize anything but the seat height. It was a very disappointing purchase. Don't waste your money on this chair.
