It doesn't play music. I talks with each catch. When it says, you cracked my egg, child is out. Really fun. I play just the opposite with kids. When it says you cracked my egg, they are the winner. It's fun.

Yes! The sound box is removable. You can either just take it out of the toy or turn it off.

Q: Will this work for kids 9-12

I purchased it for my grands and they are 7, 8 and 11. They enjoyed it so go for it.
