Calypso + Belafonte Sings of the Caribbean

Everyone needs to get this CD in time for summer. Beautiful, humorous, wistful, this should be in your summer soundtrack. I can just see the turquoise water darken to cobalt as the sun sets over the Caribbean ...

I'm 76 and I had the exact same "album" when I was in high school. This CD has all the same greatest hit calypso songs. This is the one to buy for calpso/caribbean songs.

Phenomenal sound. I have the Bear Family box set and this release sounds even better. It HAS to be from a master---it is that good.The disc is mastered so well that the mono seems to be spread across the left and right channels...not squashed to the middle like most mono recordings. Likely, a full-track tape machine was used in the conversion to cd. Essential!

This is a wonderful find! I first heard the “Calypso” album as a child in the 50s, and knew all the songs by heart, so it was wonderful to hear them all again. The second album I’d not heard before, and it’s just as enjoyable, with three extra songs that truly seal the deal. Harry Belafonte has the most marvelous voice, smooth but edgy where needed, and very evocative of the Islands, with that inimitable beat and cadences.

This combo CD of two albums has all the Belafonte songs I've known and loved. Great music at a good price.

Though music is certainly mellifluous and my Dad enjoyed the CD version of the original LP. overall product is drab-given that all but five of the tunes are unknown. Diehards of calypso and/or Belafonte should enjoy it more.

Songs still sound fresh and great examples of the sound of the Caribbean islands.

One night in the swimming pool we started singing Da Oh. So, I went home and ordered and I now have 3 CDs of Belafonte music. We just love Belafonte Calypso. There is none like Belafonte to sing Calypso. He is our memory of yesteryear.

I bought this CD for my Mom, who is 93, to relive our time in Jamaica 20 years ago and also to relive the memory of Harry Belafonte in concert the last time he was here in our City. We both enjoyed the CD, the sound quality is great and the selection of songs is perfect.
