Disappointed
We own another, wider gate by North States that we have installed with hardware to keep our dog in the kitchen and the baby out of the kitchen. I've been so happy with that gate I searched for another by this same brand. I am so disappointed! Our hallway is 35.5 inches wide. Looking at the description, this gate should fit. Unfortunately, the description leaves out key information that you find in the instructions. Between the extensions and the screws, there's about an inch that won't work. I've included a photo so you can check if that is the case for you.We could rig this to fit our hall, but there's another thing that made me decide against it. I expected a pressure mounted gate, and it is. What you don't know until you look at the instructions is that in order to pressure mount, you need to install "wall cups" either with a screw or strong double-sided tape. Either one would damage the paint and the walls. This is what we were trying to avoid, so back it goes.

does not fit certain openings even within the described range
The amazon post and outside of the box say this gate will fit openings 28.75"-38.25" -- great I measured the two areas I wanted to use this gate and they were between those widths so I ordered them. Not until you open everything up do the instructions indicate that there are certain 1 inch increments within that range where the gate will not fit (because of the size of the extenders). So for example, if you have an opening that is 31.5" wide, you will have a lot of trouble getting the gate to fit because using two extenders will make the gate too wide, but using one extender is not enough (the 31.5" is not the true number, but just an example). It just so happened that both my openings fell into these one inch areas where the gate really doesn't work. Luckily my dad was helping install and he is very handy so he figured out how to add screws, cut the extenders, etc to get the gates to work, but the description needs to be updated to identify this problem -- I'm good at following instructions on these types of things, but without my dad coming up with creative ways to get these installed, I would have had to box all this up and send it back to the seller. Before buying I recommend reaching out to the seller and asking exactly what widths this gate fits -- or better yet the seller makes it very clear that there are certain width openings within the range the advertiser that the gate will not fit.

A reliable gate...
...for in between rooms or at the bottom of stairs. As reliable as they seem in those two places, I'm still not sure I would trust them (nor any tension mounted gate for that matter) at the top of a staircase. Overall though I am very happy with the gate and would buy again or recommend to others.

Great gate
We like this gate a lot. Easy to install and very sturdy. The gate opens and closes easily, but not easy enough for a child. The only down fall is the night light. Not very bright at all so it’s useless. That’s why I gave the gate a 4 star rating. We would purchase this again though because it’s is so much better than the plastic or wooden gates.

Second purchase.
We’ve been very happy with the gate. After having the one similar to it but without the light, we went with the light this time. The light is not bright but let’s people know something is there and to step over. My hubs had a little difficult time installing it as our house is very old and things are uneven. We’ve been very happy with it and recommend it.
