2014 Ram 1500 5.7 Install. VERY PLEASED!
Very pleased with this purchase. With TBS’s you hear so much hype both positive and negative it’s hard to know what to expect. The instructions are pretty straightforward as is the process to install.Below are my notes for what I’ve noticed as well as installing the unit (see pictures):*No Tune is required, simple bolt on addition.* When installing the Spacer, the AIR-IN side, or serrated points..needs to face upward—helix end faces down.* Whistle Sound only occurs under heavy acceleration.* Normal Acceleration and Normal Driving I hear no whistle sound at all.* You will need 8mm socket for the screws.* If you have an aftermarket intake, you will need to dissemble it and re-fit it as the alignment will change some after the TB is raised.* I did not have to adjust or modify my engine cover to fit the TBS.* Acceleration seems somewhat smoother especially passing through the shift points.* Over the course of three days of driving, my MPG average increased from 20.9-up to 22.1 using 87 octane. Based on the trend I believe this number could be higher if not for the hilly terrain where I live that causes that average to fluctuate (West Virginia). (My setup: aFe Magnum Stage Two CAI and Flowmaster American Thunder Muffler (817568) )

Garage shelf Decor!
First off, this thing is a gimmick, which I should have known before even thinking of purchasing. Anyways this thing does absolutely nothing for Preformance, it’s just like when folks say “delete resonators to gain HP”. Don’t work! What you need is ported/bored throttle body to actually have any type of gains, and this should be done only if you going full Longtube headers/Cold Air Intake/Tuner as then you just wasting your money. This thing has short bolts for the rear of of the throttle body and doesn’t seal around the intake manifold mating surface. I didn’t mind the whistle noise (yes it still whistles). If you just wanting to grab something that has a placebo effect, this is your go to part. I’d save the $200+ and put towards a 180 T-Stat/V6 E-fan swap then this thing. That way you’ll Keep your Hemi cooler which is a good thing. Now, this material is good quality, but for $200+, I don’t need good quality parts sitting on my garage shelf, I need it on my Truck. My truck is a 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 4x4 Sport that’s heavily modified engine/trans/Gears/suspension.

2011 Ram 1500 Hemi. Nice, but....
This item was nicely packaged, and came with all its parts. Not to difficult to put in, even for a novice like myself.I installed the item after reading the instructions and watching a couple of videos. Easy enough, not rocket science. Even obeyed all the warnings about over torqueing so as not to strip the plastic air intake manifold (what idiot came up with that). Took throttle body off, gave it a nice cleaning, cleaned the gasket, and went to put it together.Put the round gasket back with a little silicone grease on it, then put the spacer on it, then the spacer gasket, then put the throttle body back on. Dropped in the new extra long screws and tightened them in. Got my torque wrench, set the inch pounds and then proceeded to strip two screws. :(Are you kidding me?!? 48 in lbs on two of them seemed fine but the other two had issues.Well, its in place, lets see how it runs. Might as well, since a new air intake is almost $500. I will give it this, Full Throttle Baby!!!! Just barely touched the accelerator, and warp speed. The throttle response is amazing. Had to learn how to drive the truck again. Me like it a lot.Now for the But, beside stripping two screws, this high pitched whistle is annoying. The description says the whistle is not supposed to happen, but when I read a lot of reviews on other websites they all talk about the whistle. I figured it was from the spacer not being in tight enough with two screws stripped. A couple weeks went by and I was finally annoyed. So following some advice from friends that are car junkies and mechanics, I was gonna fix the stripped holes.I disassembled the whole thing back down, did a quick inspection of everything, and was about to start a very long repair process when something caught my eye. I was holding the factory screws in one hand and the new extra long ones in the other, when I thought they looked thinner than the factory ones. I took out my calipers and sure enough. the factory ones measured @ 5.7 mm wide while the new ones measured @5.35.So the good news I didn't strip the holes. The new ones just didn't fit snuggly. I ran the old ones back down the holes to make sure the threads weren't to damaged, and had to figure out what to do with the new bolts. So to get my width back I wrapped the new screws in Teflon plumbers tape, till my calipers read 5.7 mm. This is a temp fix till I get to the store to buy new screws.I put everything back together. Things fit better, but did not use torque wrench again, just in case. The whistle has died down a little bit, but seems to be really active when the days are warmer, on cold morning I don't hear it. I can even here it over max volume Eminem. When I find screws that fit, I will update this post, if I don't then for all the performance I will not tolerate the whistle.
