Programmed thru myQ app
I was able to program Liftmaster 890Max on myQ app by simply Adding Device. It was my #1 FAQ and I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a Chamberlain Belt Drive MYQ system, so - while programming - I didn't have to deal with buttons and light colors. Just Add Device from myQ app. I bought it for my college son when MYQ Video Keypad battery died and he was stuck outside in the cold. (I have since purchased myQ hard-wire Power Adapter kit.)

Intentionally confusing?
The instructions seem to have been written by ChatGPT or were simply very poorly thought out. I followed them to the letter and could not get the remote to properly work with my opener. Even went and looked up YouTube videos, still nothing.It seems to have been programmed to my opener, but wouldn't actually work until I pressed the learn button THEN used the remote. Having to carry a pin to use a garage door opener is a ridiculous notion.Either I got a dud or this is just very badly designed. I went with an off- brand opener remote, had that working in less than 30 seconds. I'd suggest you do the same.
