CYD
It's a "cheap yellow display" and it is so versatile. I purpose built one to track the beer left in my kegerator, and am using the other for pentesting activities. A very cool product.

Works with Home Assistant if you set it up correctly
These works as intended. I bought them to use in Home Assistant with espHome. Figuring out the correct parameters to use for the display took the better part of a day, but I figured it out. The main issue was the the following statement is required in the display section: color_palette: 8BIT. Also you need to specify the screen resolution. These were missing from most of the examples on line, and the symptoms of having them wrong were not obvious.

New Boards Have USB-C
I received a pack of two of these last night and was pleasantly surprised to see USB C connectivity.Using Random Nerd’s tutorials I was able to get these up and running with demos in the Arduino IDE within about 15 minutes tops. Super straightforward.I am still looking into working with micro Python on these, but so far the screen is quality, great value for what you’re paying for, and functions as expected. The display is passable, not crazy good but not dim or anything. I will say that it chugs a bit when refreshing a lot of graphics at once. I saw drops from 60 to 8 FPS but I had a lot of widgets on the screen. Touch screen isn’t as responsive as I’d like.TLDR; good for the price, documentation can be found on Random Nerd’s (ESP32 Cheap Yellow Display). Why am I rating this 5 stars? They perform as expect for $17 displays w/ an embedded chip. It would cost me a lot more time and money to get this going with an RP2040 + soldering to a display. The documentation from Random Nerd’s has accelerated my personal project, so I’ll stick with these for now.

Works
Arrived in 2 days and packaged individually inside plastic boxes. Easily programmed and the touch screen works great. The only issues I've had is that it will not read micro sd card.

Funnti figure out
Good CYD for the price. Anyone who says the SD card doesn't work didn't analyze the schematic or stay up 2 nights trying to figure it out. Here is the Arduino test file I made to see if the SD card works:

These are great for DIY projects.
Both of these work great. Print files to use with your 3D printer are available. I found that the type C usb gives better power than the micro usb. Your mileage may vary.

Defective
Defective screen. Tried multiple times. Spent hours debugging thinking the problem was me. It wasn’t the screen was defective out of the box. What a waste.
