This Lego style block carrying case has been really handy for travelling this summer - visits to the grandparents? Got some blocks to play with. Long drive in the car? Got some blocks to play with. Stay in a caravan? Got some blocks to play with…The box has a built plate on the surface, and there is a figure and some bricks inside to start you off as soon as the case arrives and can then be filled up with your own Lego and other bricks.The carrying handle makes it easy to transport, and makes little ones feel like they have their own important case to carry, and it’s not too big so it’s easy to travel with.The drawer which pulls out of the box has a large lip to grip when pulling it open which is great, but when pushing it closed, the top surface of the box says slightly and prevents it from being pushed all the way in. We’ve found we have to try to lift up the top surface of the box whilst pushing the drawer in so that it slides fully shut. If the kids close the drawer themselves, it looks fully closed, but when we start to walk with the case the drawer slides open and tips the bricks everywhere.The drawer has no catch, latch or fastening, so it seems like the friction between the top of the box and the front of the drawer is what secures it in place when shut. This only works, however, when the drawer is pushed right back into the case, and that’s not something my kids can manage.We’ve had a few disasters due to this.Now that we’ve worked out what the problem is with the drawer, it’s up to the adults to remember to always check it’s closed properly before we leave the house with it. It’s still a really handy thing to have, just a shame that the drawer design has caused a few tears and a fair amount of exasperation.

This is our go to toy choice when going out, its been so handy.Big enough to take lots of lego, but not too big that its awkward to pack to take!Could improve the sliding drawer, but good enough.

Block Tech are neither the best nor the worst when it comes to ‘Lego compatible’ brands- and that’s true for this storage box as well as the normal brick sets we’ve bought in discount shops in the past. In principle they work absolutely fine, and they click together and stay together fairly well. However there’s something about the shine and weight of the plastic that exposes it very quickly as “not real Lego”, and it is just a little bit more fiddly, and harder to separate, compared to the famous brand. In particular, the shine issue means that this is quite a shiny and to my eyes cheap-looking storage box.However, it’s quite a practical little design, and a handy little box to have. Telling our youngest that he can play Lego on the living room floor, but on the condition that any loose pieces go in this box until they’re attached to something else, has proven really quite successful. It’s not a huge box for long-term storage of a lot of pieces, but as a little carry case for taking a small collection of bricks to a different room, or if staying over at a grandparent’s for a night and so on, it’s got a lot of potential uses.As I mentioned, Block Tech stuff is sometimes trickier to prise apart than Lego, but with this storage box, there’s one specific advantage to that- the tray doesn’t slide out accidentally. There’s a handle on the top of this box, and the tray slides out from the side, yet you can shake this box quite aggressively using the handle, and the tray stays put inside the case, instead of sliding out and spilling its contents everywhere. It’s an essential bit of the design, to avoid making this a brick spreader rather than brick storage, but in that respect it’s been built quite well.The brick pieces included in this set don’t come with any specific instructions, they are just a bunch of random things for building anything you want. It’s not a generous collection of pieces (one of the product photos implies there’s more than there really are), but it’s a fairly decent range of standard piece shapes in a variety of colours. The oddest part is the mini-figure who, like other Block Tech figures, just looks wrong in a variety of ways, with weird legs, and an odd face shape- which logically is no weirder than the Lego mini-figure standard face shape, yet with Lego it looks iconic but here it just ends up looking slightly weird.As usual, Block Tech is cheaper but not as good as the brand it’s famously compatible with. But the current asking price of eight quid for this storage case is actually pretty good value.

This great brick storage box arrives in a easy to recycle cardboard sleeve. I chose it because we're not ashamed to admit we're AFOL's (Adult Fan's of Lego). A hobby that's both creative and relaxing, but it can be expensive.So, to eke out the build time, but also to enjoy the build without rushing, we usually only do one bag in an evening Which is fine for something like City, but with Technics and Ideas some of the builds can really make you think. Plus, like many folk, we also have a hectic happy family household, so we don't alway finish our bag.We used to put the unused bricks of the day back in the box, but that's a good way of losing the one small part you need. So we made a wooden tray, which works, but it's a bit of a pet hair magnet.Especially as the cat likes sitting on the tray and bricks!Then we got this and instantly we saw it's potential. In particular how it's well made from a decent quality plastic. It's compact design being just the right size for holding the typical bag of bricks.Then any large parts can easily be secured to the plate on top of the box. A plate that has a decent level of clutch power, that's how well a brick stays attached to another. The plate isn't removable, but that means there's no chance we'll lose the plate.It's also nicely practical with a handle for easy carrying. Plus we like how the tray fits snugly and securely and doesn't easily slide out. Thus preventing accidental spills.Another nice thing is you get a small random collection of bricks with this. there's even a minifigure, all of which are compatible with Lego and other brands of building blocks. Yes the box doesn't hold large amounts of bricks, but for us that's not an issue.Overall? For us this storage box is a great way of storing and transporting a small amount of building bricks. Yes it's not "official" Lego, but it does a great job at a great price.
